Fort Worth's Dan Johnson was raised in the Appalachian mountains of Kentucky in a musical family who shared songs and stories every night, in the old, folk tradition. His great aunt, Jean Ritchie, is widely known as the Mother of Folk music and recorded the first ever Appalachian Folk songs with Doc Watson, for the Smithsonian Institute.
Dan's songs reflect the mingling of his geographical and spiritual music heritage. His mother introduced him to her favorite songwriters like Carole King, James Taylor, and Jim Croce. Somewhere between the roots of country and folk and the poetry of masterful songwriters, Dan found his writing voice. Moving to Texas for college, he found a love for the original Red Dirt artists. Jerry Jeff Walker, Rusty Wier, and the like imprinted on Dan's style, as he met and began to open for some of his favorite arists like like Pat Green, Walt Wilkins, Jason Boland, William Clark Green, and Randy Rogers.
Dan's live shows are fueled with passion and energy, as he connects deeply with audiences, from heart-wrenching ballads, to uplifting anthems, and fun, tongue-in-cheek dance tunes.
